    Currently I’m an IT Manager at Tesco Ireland and involved in the running of the Tesco Health and Wellbeing Division. I have over 13 years experience in IT Infrastructure & Web Technologies where I have charted the future technology path of our business and transformed our IT infrastructure, development, QA and our data & IP. Technology is a genuine passion of mine, from creating pebble apps to my own server in the cloud and I love to share that passion with those around me (read my personal blog on www.cloudservicesireland.com for more). I’m driven, determined and I want to be part of a business where one person, really can make a positive difference.

    IT Manager @ Tesco Ireland Ltd.

    (Tesco Health and Wellbeing)                                Apr ’10 – Present

    Responsible for developing our emerging free and legacy, white label and ecommerce services; leading a team of 35 people in conjunction with the Managing Director and line managed an IT department of 16. In this role I was tasked with the stability, security and performance of all IT systems and was responsible for IT Strategy, Program & Project Management and sat as part of a business strategy team of 3; running the business unit day to day but was also hands on in infrastructure, R&D and innovation development. Read More on this Role…

    Some Key Achievements:

    +        Chosen from a senior team of six to sit on the Tesco Health and Wellbeing strategy leadership team consisting of Managing Director, Marketing Manager and I; and lead the business to a return to profitability in 2012.

    +        Implemented IT KPIs & performance tracking, reformed project management systems and in 2012, moved our business to Lean & Agile methodologies through the SCRUM implementation, operating as Product Owner.

    +        Delivered Tesco Health and Wellbeing website and iOS & Android Apps which have attracted 105,000+ customers since soft launch (Mid Jan 2014).

    +        Built an Internal App Development team from scratch; and supporting API, as well as moving to PHP from ColdFusion using existing team & resources.

    +        Cut Costs by 31% while delivering infrastructure upgrades and stability improvements; during the deployment of a vast array of new technologies, to support new Tesco Health and Wellbeing architecture.

    +        Worked with marketing team for 9 months website conversion on Tesco Diets (+12% YOY). Also lead on initiatives to improve engagement and usability on the service for which micro-data was used to measure.

    +        Reduced bug rates from 8.1% to 2.6% from 2011 to 2014 and implemented Automation Testing reducing the pre-post bug ratio from 1:20 to 2:1.

    +        Implemented Innovation Programme including hackathons, innovation time, talks and personally lead data scraping innovation project, delivering customer improvements as well as improving IT Staff retention from 50% to 94%.

    Responsible for the entirety of Tesco Diets infrastructure both office and Data Centre; and for ensuring the stability, security and performance of said networks as well as planning for the future technology needs of the organisation. Read More about this Role…

    +        Migrated Data Centre Operations to Dublin reducing hosting costs by 34% and power costs by 70% through virtualisation and shared storage with no service downtime.

    +        Reduced infrastructure costs by 66% while improving latency performance by 71% and exceeding Uptime SLA of 99.98% and delivered key infrastructure upgrades to Database and Networks.

    +        Delivered Infrastructure Security Build for Payment Card Industry Compliance in 2010 and were the 1st Tesco Business to achieve PCI Compliance.

    +        Delivered the supporting infrastructure for 6 new White-Label B2B solutions increasing sales revenues by 340K.


    Senior IT Engineer @ IBM BTO Ireland             May ’05 – Oct ’06

    Responsible for the maintenance and management of all IT infrastructure and network security including firewalls, anti-virus and mail environment. Last point of contact before management for all Technical Services related issues and charge of the centres LAN / WAN support, troubleshooting Network routing and connectivity issues.     System Administrator @ Equitant Ltd.               May ’05 – Oct ’06

    Prior to IBM’s purchase of Equitant Limited, I worked as a System Administrator supporting a wide variety of IT Products and was responsible for the day to day running of the Technical Services department under the guidance of the Senior IT Engineer and reporting into the Technical Services Manager.
